Snowy Tree Sugar Cookies

Posted on November 11, 2013
Good Morning, Everybody! So since we are supposed to get our first snow of the season sometime this week (it may even be today! And even if it’s just a dusting, it still counts!), I thought it would be appropriate to share these Snowy Tree Sugar Cookies with you today!Β I used my favorite sugar cookie and royal icing recipes to make these (you can find both of them in THIS post), and you could even sprinkle some shimmery sugar on top of the “snow” to make it look sparkly! Sugar cookies are one of my favorite cookies, and I always have some frozen dough in my freezer, which is a great time saver. And with all the Christmas baking being just a couple of weeks away, I hope these little cookies give you some inspiration!

What beautiful cookies! I envy your abilities. πŸ™‚ Pinned these so we could make them at Christmas–or in January when it’s freezing cold and all I want is my blanket and a warm fire.

Thank you for creating such lovely work!

    Love, Joy

  • Joy November 13, 2013 at 12:40 pm

P.S. What tools do you use to apply your royal icing? Thank you. πŸ™‚

    • Maria November 16, 2013 at 9:41 pm

Thank you so much for the sweet comment, Joy! As for what tools I use to apply the royal icing…. I use simple pastry bags (plastic disposable ones from Wilton) and I cut the tip off. I always outline the cookies first and then “flood” the interior with the icing.

These are so lovely, I’ve never tried anything so professional looking myself. You make it look easy/achievable. Do they go soggy (the biscuits I mean) once the icing is on or does that depend on what icing you use? I’m wondering if I could make these as gifts and if so how soon before needing them I would have to make them?

    • Maria November 17, 2013 at 11:11 pm

Thanks so much, Julia! The cookies didn’t really get soggy (maybe we ate them too fast! Ha!), I’m thinking they would last and look nice for a couple of days, it probably depends on the kind of icing you use.

Your sugar cookies are all so beautiful! I may use them again for my classroom like we did for Halloween. If I teach the kids to decorate like these, how should I pipe the snow on the branches?
    http://friedgreenkimchi.com/2014/10/17/ghost-cookies-in-the-classroom/

    • Maria December 10, 2014 at 8:28 pm

Thanks so much, Lauren! To pipe the snow on the branches… I usually flood the whole cookie with the green icing, and then once it’s set, I pipe the “snow” on with white icing, just sort of around the branches. Hope that helps, and that the kids have fun decorating! πŸ™‚
