Hi, Everyone! I hope you are all having a great weekend! I wanted to share my Daisy Sugar Cookies with you today, that I made to celebrate the arrival of spring! I love daisies, and every time I see them, I think of the movie, You’ve Got Mail, and the part where Kathleen says, “I love daisies. They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?”And she was so right, they are such friendly flowers. There is something so cheerful and happy about them. Here’s the recipe for these Daisy Sugar Cookies…

DAISY SUGAR COOKIES
(Recipe from Martha Stewart)
*Makes about 2 dozen cookies*
/
YOU WILL NEED:
SUGAR COOKIES
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup (4oz) unsalted butter
1 large egg
2 tbs milk
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
.
ROYAL ICING
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 tsp milk
2 tsp light corn syrup
Food coloring
.
.
DIRECTIONS
.
1. First, prepare your sugar cookie dough. In your electric mixer bowl, cream together the butter and sugar, then add the egg, milk and vanilla extract. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and baking powder. With the mixer running on medium speed, add the dry ingredients to the wet in three portions. Once you have a soft dough, shape it into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
.
2. Take your dough out, and roll it out on a floured surface to about an 1/8 inch thickness. Preheat your oven to 350 deg F and line your baking sheets with parchment paper. Cut out your shapes, and place them on your baking sheets. Bake for about 8 minutes, or until the edges begin to brown very slightly. Cool completely before decorating.
;
3. Once the cookies have cooled completely, prepare your royal icing. Whisk all the ingredients except for the food coloring together (make sure it’s completely smooth and there are no lumps). You may need to add more milk or corn syrup, depending on the consistency you want. Add your food coloring in to get your desired color and decorate your cookies! (*Note: I doubled the royal icing recipe to have enough icing for all the sugar cookies that the recipe made)

SQUIRREL SUGAR COOKIES
Posted on October 18, 2014Hey Everyone! I hope you’re having a good weekend! I wanted to stop by and share a cute and super simple sugar cookie idea with you today! I feel like this is the best time of year for all kinds of cookie baking… you can package them nicely and give away as little gifts, make them for holiday parties or enjoy them with some hot chocolate on a cold night like this! I have so many cookie cutters; I have many that my mom has given me over the years, some that belonged to my grandma, and some that I’ve added to my collection every holiday season. I have a cute set of woodland animal cookie cutters which is where this squirrel one is from, and I thought they would make for fun fall sugar cookies, especially decorated with chocolate sprinkles to make the squirrel’s fluffy tail! They are super easy to make (you only need one color of royal icing!) and are so delicious too! Here’s how I made them…

Royal icing recipe (like THIS one)
Chocolate sprinkles

DIRECTIONS
First, make your sugar cookies, either following your favorite sugar cookie recipe or you can use my favorite sugar cookie recipe which you can find here! Let the cookies cool completely, then prepare your royal icing (recipe here). To make brown royal icing, I added a couple drops of red gel food coloring and about twice as many green drops of green gel food coloring to the royal icing, but you can experiment with the proportions of the food coloring to make it the exact brown color you want! Once you have the right consistency and color of icing, fill a clear piping bag with it and cut off the tip. Then, first decorate the tail; outline and flood the tail with icing, then immediately sprinkle it with chocolate sprinkles. Let sit for a couple seconds, then shake off the excess sprinkles, and using a toothpick, make sure the sprinkles adhere to the icing well and reposition any if you need to. Then, outline and flood the rest of the squirrel’s body with icing and use one sprinkle for its eye. Let the icing dry completely before eating.

Snowy Tree Sugar Cookies
Posted on November 11, 2013Good Morning, Everybody! So since we are supposed to get our first snow of the season sometime this week (it may even be today! And even if it’s just a dusting, it still counts!), I thought it would be appropriate to share these Snowy Tree Sugar Cookies with you today! I used my favorite sugar cookie and royal icing recipes to make these (you can find both of them in THIS post), and you could even sprinkle some shimmery sugar on top of the “snow” to make it look sparkly! Sugar cookies are one of my favorite cookies, and I always have some frozen dough in my freezer, which is a great time saver. And with all the Christmas baking being just a couple of weeks away, I hope these little cookies give you some inspiration!

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies
Posted on October 13, 2013Hi Everyone! So, inspired by our recent trip to an Amish pumpkin farm (read about it HERE), I decided to make some Pumpkin Sugar Cookies this weekend, and I wanted to share them with you today! I love decorating cookies, I’m definitely not a professional by any means, it’s just something fun that I love to do! I love that with one simple cookie recipe, a couple of cookie cutters and different colored icing, you can make so many different creations! They are the perfect little treat to make for different holidays or great little gifts if you package them in pretty little bags with cute ribbon and gift tags!
.
I always use the same sugar cookie recipe and royal icing recipe, you can find both of them in THIS post! You may need to adjust the icing recipe slightly, sometimes it requires a little more liquid, so add more if needed! You can freeze the cookie dough too, and just thaw it out before you need it.

Plaid Sugar Cookies
Posted on October 9, 2013Hi Everybody! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been loving this fall so far! Taking walks outside and enjoying the beautiful, colorful nature, baking some of my favorite fall treats, drinking hot apple cider and finally wearing all those sweaters and cardigans that I’ve been waiting to wear again! One of my fall favorites is plaid; cozy plaid blankets to cuddle under, cute plaid shirts to wear with jeans, or soft plaid scarves to keep you warm! I was making some sugar cookies the other day, and thought I would decorate them with a plaid pattern for a fun fall look. I used my favorite Martha Stewart Sugar Cookie recipe and Royal Icing recipe for these, you can find them both HERE!

Ballerina Flat Sugar Cookies
Posted on July 5, 2013Hi, Everyone! I hope you’ve all been having a great week so far! I have a fun cookie idea to share with you today! These little Ballerina Flat Sugar Cookies are delicious and just melt in your mouth, and are the perfect little treat or favor for any girly party! I used my favorite sugar cookie recipe which you can find here, and this royal icing recipe. I made a simple stencil in the shape of the shoe and then used it to cut shapes out of the sugar cookie dough. I just did a simple design with the royal icing, but you could use whatever colors and designs you choose and decorate the cookies however you like! It would also be fun to decorate these at a party and let everyone design their own “shoes”!

Valentine’s Day Love Bird Cookies
Posted on January 17, 2013Hi, Everybody! Welcome to another post in my Valentine’s Day Projects series! Today I’m sharing another cookie idea for Valentine’s Day – my Love Bird Cookies! To make these, I drew out a bird stencil and a branch stencil, and then cut the shapes out of some sugar cookie dough. Valentine’s Day Heart Puzzle Cookies
Posted on January 14, 2013Hi, Everyone! With exactly a month left until Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing the first of my Valentine’s Day projects with you today! My Valentine’s Day Heart Puzzle Cookies! They are just simple sugar cookies decorated with colored royal icing, and you can make them in any color combinations, and write whatever words or names you like on them! I didn’t have a cookie cutter for these so I just drew out a stencil and cut the cookies out using a knife, but I know they sell cookie cutters for these, so if you have one go ahead and use it! I used Martha Stewart’s basic sugar cookie recipe, and also her royal icing recipe. To gift package these, just place them in a pretty box or clear bag with some colorful shredded paper and tie with some ribbon! Super easy and super cute for Valentine’s Day!
